The Funhouse (1981)

Don't just stand there!  Run!

Not as accomplished as Lifeforce and Poltergeist would be, but you can see where a lot of the energy and style Tobe Hooper would bring to those here. Even if it has some of the dumber stare-and-screamers in horror movie history, I like that the stakes here are low; it's just a bunch of kids who stayed in the funhouse after dark and saw something they shouldn't have. No cults, no demons, nothing like that. something which is a feature of Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well, even if I don't like that as much.

1981 - Directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Larry Block.
